The Disney Dream’s keel laying ceremony took place in Papenburg, Germany. The new ship will continue its construction process at the Meyer Werft Shipyard. The keel laying ceremony commences when the first piece of a ship is lowered into the building dock. A lucky coin was put under the keel of the Disney Dream for good fortune.
The Disney Dream will join the Disney Cruise Line fleet in 2011. Shortly thereafter, in 2012, the Dream Fantasy will set sail. The total capacity of both ships more than doubles that of the current Disney Cruise Line fleet. The new ships weigh in at 128,000 tons and have 1250 wonderfully appointed staterooms onboard.
Between the best shipbuilders at the Meyer Werft shipyard, and the creative minds at Disney, the Disney Dream is a truly distinctive ship. The new ship has the latest in shipbuilding designs mixed in with the magical storytelling of Disney.
Even though the exact design details aren’t available yet, the Disney Dream will sure to please every family member. Spaces have been designed for families, kids and adults-only so that every person who boards will have a place to call home during the voyage.
Disney’s unique cruise terminal in Port Canaveral, FL, will serve as home to the two new ships. Because of their size and the increased capacity, Disney has already started expanding their unique terminal.
Not only will the dock get longer and the terminal be reconfigured to a bigger size, construction on a new multi-floor parking garage has also begun. These new features will help smooth the loading and unloading process.
Keep an eye out for the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy as these new ships will be sailing to uncharted magic soon.
